So here it is. My blog for my Global Health class. I decided to blog about HIV and AIDS because these diseases are more prevalent then most believe. Did you know that there has been 545,805 deaths in the U.S. from AIDS from 1981-2006? 14016 of those deaths were in 2006 alone. There has also been 982,498 people diagnosed with AIDS from 1981-2006 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). These numbers are out of control.
So what can we do?
Last year, President Bush called for an unprecedented act of compassion to turn the tide against the ravages of HIV/AIDS. The President committed $15 billion over 5 years to address the global HIV/AIDS pandemic – more money than ever before committed by any nation for any international health care initiative (Tobias). There have also been many many efforts by non-profit organizations and many people who have donated to the cause.

Although this disease may never be fully curable, there are many efforts going towards the cause and many who are doing all they can to make the impossible a reality.
